An early short, containing one of the first British examples of special effects, in which a courting couple are filmed while being zapped by x-rays.

A useful little film to test or consolidate students understanding of x-rays.

Activity

Watch the film through with no introduction, before giving students 3 minutes to write their own (preferably witty) voiceovers, which must to include at least three facts they have learned about x-rays and their use.

A selection of these can then be read out as the film plays on the whiteboard.

Some more ideas

  • What do students think that the film suggest about attitudes towards the discovery of x-rays in the 1890s and how are scientific breakthroughs and discoveries responded to today?
