This film does contain some graphic imagery, so teachers are advised to watch it before using it in class.
A Short Vision has a hugely evocative soundtrack and one that plays a central role in the narrative arc of the film.
Why not play students the film, covering up the screen, asking them to jot down the adjectives that they associate with the score. Can they identify separate sections in the music and how are these delineated - by tempo, pace, orchestration, instrument?
Having listened to the music and narration - students will have some idea of the story. After watching the film, ask them how significant they think the score is in creating the threatening and sinister mood that characterises the animation? Ask them to score it on a scale of one to 10, justifying their decision.
Another idea might be to analyse the score in context of not only the narration but the editing of the film. There will be some interesting discussion around the interplay of the narrator and the music, but it might be useful to think about how the style of the score changes from sequence to sequence as well as any repetitive elements - such as the high-pitched chord that represents the mysterious 'it' as it glides through the night sky.
