A naval exercise involving Britain's then newest battleship.

Show full synopsis

This non-fiction film shows a naval exercise and the protection of HMS Dreadnought, Britain's latest battleship. The battleship had been launched in 1906 and was the pride of the Royal Navy. The naval exercise was held for the benefit of visiting premiers attending the Imperial Conference in May 1907, and these may be the civilians seen being escorted around the ship. The ships armaments of 12-inch guns are clearly shown and HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship, can be seen in the background in several scenes. The biggest threat to the Dreadnought was probably from submarines and torpedoes (or from spies), hence the exercise. The torpedoes can be seen fired from the destroyers and the captured torpedo is seen caught in the defensive nets.
