Synopsis

Warning: screenonline full synopses contain 'spoilers' which give away key plot points. Don't read on if you don't want to know the ending!

Petticoat Lane Market, East London. The street is very crowded, populated predominantly by men. In front of the shops that line the street are a series of market stalls. A few men stand on a platform; one holds up waistcoats to sell to the crowd. Along the street there is a 'soda milk' stall and a few clothes stalls.

Crowds fill the road and pavement. One man stands on a platform, evidently an auctioneer, with a hammer in his hand. Beside him is a sign for watches. Another man shouts vigorously from his stall, standing above the crowd. In a narrow street, a woman stands at a clothes stall as a man holds up trousers to passing customers. Men lift their hats and wave. At the other side of the narrow street, another woman sells clothes. Elsewhere a man shuffles cards at his stall as others watch.
