Synopsis

Warning: screenonline full synopses contain 'spoilers' which give away key plot points. Don't read on if you don't want to know the ending!

A bridge over the Rhine. Pedestrians walk along it, as does a French soldier on guard. A column of horse-drawn French army vehicles crosses the bridge. Four British (?) tanks (marked E24, E21, E22) and an army lorry are parked in a square, watched by a small crowd. Civilians watch the movement of a tank.

British mounted troops (wearing tin hats) and gun carriages cross a square. British and French officers inspect French troops. More French troops cross the same square.

The officers talk in a group outside the Hansa-Hotel. A British soldier stands guard outside a building with a sign reading "Commandant British Area of Control". He moves back the watching crowd.
