This light-hearted item profiles the work of Rotherham Football Club talent scout Joe McGuire. Although the links with mining may not seem obvious, the commentary points out that twenty-two of the players in Rotherham's three teams at the time of filming were full-time miners, and eight of those were in the first team. The player cited in the commentary was Jack Grainger (1924-83), a working miner who played for Rotherham between 1945 and 1957, scoring 112 goals in league matches and 8 in cup games. Somewhat ill-advisedly, the Mining Review team decided to have a flutter on Rotherham to add some more human interest to their film, but picked the wrong match to film, as Rotherham lost to York City by six goals to one.
