It's Sunday evening at Ashington Colliery. The pit is resting before the back shift takes over to start a new week. Into the unaccustomed quiet of the pit yard comes a solemn procession, for this is Rogation Sunday, and mineworkers and their families join together in a short evening service, as they have done over the last several years, to ask God's blessing on the industry, and the pit they serve.
