A house-building programme for miners in the Midlands is celebrated by a ceremony to mark the completion of an entire estate.

Show full synopsis

Six years on from the miners' housing item 'Your Move' (1st Year No.9), Mining Review offered a very brief snapshop of a Midlands-based house-building programme for miners and their families. Emphasis is placed on efficiency, as prefabricated parts are literally swung into place with cranes and assembled at speed.

The specific occasion marked here was the completion of an entire estate of 234 houses at Dordon, near Atherstone. 29-year-old Lancashire-born miner P.J. Gallagher was the lucky recipient of the final house, and while he and his family were celebrating its completion with assorted dignitaries, their possessions were quickly moved in.
