Show full synopsis

Travelling through the picturesque locales of Shakespeare's birthplace, this travelogue offers a leisurely view of Stratford-upon-Avon. For centuries, the town has been a place of pilgrimage for Shakespeare enthusiasts. This film, however, sidesteps any acknowledgement of a tourist industry, instead promoting Stratford as an untouched idyll. With a meandering ride along the river Avon accompanied by views of Tudor-style cottages, the film almost imagines what life would have been like in Shakespeare's day. Naturally, it offers attractive views of the key historical sites, including Shakespeare's home, Anne Hathaway's cottage and the Shakespeare memorials. The most distinctive and thrilling moment, however, comes when Shakespeare's characters rise from the graveyard at night and play out their scenes among the tombstones.
