A town woman and her little boy are evacuated to a country cottage. After putting her son to bed, she discusses differences between town and country life with the cottage owner.
The country woman explains how the young people of the village left for the towns, and how the Women's Institutes started. Their activities include amateur dramatics, supporting evacuee children with a tea party, running painting classes, growing on communal allotments and making jam.
The country woman takes the town woman to a meeting where small groups discuss local and national affairs.
