John Atkins is a sensible clerk who lives in a typical suburban street. However, after a glimpse of a magazine cover at the station news stand showing the attractions of the seaside resort, Summersea, John's concentration on his work falters. He daydreams at his desk of a pretty girl by the seaside and spends his lunchbreak sketching her.

John is a customer of the Savings Bank and he deposits five shillings each week towards his keenly anticipated holiday. One of his saving slips, handed over at the Post Office, travels along its elaborate administrative journey around the headquarters of the Savings Bank, together with his Summersea sketch that he inadvertently handed over the desk at the same time.

The clerk's sketch of the girl of his daydreams is pocketed by a young woman working for the Bank, and results in their meeting on the beach at Summersea and romance blossoming.
