A day in the grain fields. A man enters a field and begins to sharpen his scythe. He commences cutting the wheat before a horse-drawn binder takes on the heavier tasks. The wheat is bound and 'stooked', to ensure the heads are kept off the ground. Bundles are pitchforked onto the wain, which drives off.
The wheat is stacked in a Dutch barn. At midday, the men all stop work to have a glass of beer. At tea-time, the labourers' wives bring out tea and picnic with their husbands. The top of a haystack is covered with last year's straw, to keep the rain off. The fields are ploughed in readiness for next year's crop.
