The most momentous weather event of 1911 was the heat wave of July and August, which exacerbated the industrial troubles of the summer (see Civil War: London and Liverpool under Mob Rule). Thermometers recorded 36.7 degrees centigrade in Southern England, but captured on film was the aftermath of a freak wind in Wales. National newspapers of the time seem to have overlooked this event, although further research may reveal details. At any rate, the roof-torn houses provide some striking images for Pathé's cameraman.
