The inhabitants of the French town of Lille are liberated by the Fifth Army, Liverpool Irish and Lancashire troops, who are greeted ecstatically.

A good example of the increased use of intertitles by the newsreel in the latter stages of the war, with the titles being intercut within the item to both echo and encourage the anticipated reaction of the audience to the film.

Noticeable also is the reaction of the people of Lille to the presence of the camera, which for some seems to be a greater attraction than the British troops who have just delivered them.
