Despite the privileged access to film taken by the official cameramen on the Western Front, the propaganda newsreel showed relatively little of the actual fighting.
This was due to such practical considerations as the danger to cameramen, the limitations of the equipment, and the fact that many battles took place at night.
This item is therefore unusual for its sense of the confusion of battle, and its extraordinary final shot (taken by J.B. McDowell) of a direct hit on a cavalry line.
