Show full synopsis

Out for Value (c. 1931) takes the form of a narrative story of a typical family shopping spree at Benzie's department store in Aberdeen. The ladies indulge in purchasing while the role of 'hubby' is to drive them to the store, pay for lunch, then tea, and drive them home again. The only time we see him is at these points in the day.

The Mackenzie family are seen leaving a well appointed middle-class home with house maid. Once at the store, the ladies avail themselves of the latest beauty services, hair-do and manicure, and then, somewhat strangely, partake of a bath, although one might have expected this facility to be something available at home.
