A sequence of shots showing Venice in winter time is repeated three times, each time with a different and increasingly complex soundtrack.

Show full synopsis

Adapting Vivaldi's notation system from The Four Seasons, Peter Greenaway presents a series of images shot in Venice, purposefully denying any presence of water. His sequence structure is exact and countable: one series of images is repeated three times while the soundtrack grows in levels of sophistication.
