Barry Reckord came to Britain in the 1950s to study at Cambridge. While still a student, his first play Flesh to a Tiger was produced at the Royal Court in 1958. He wrote several more plays for the Royal Court in the late 1950s and early 1960s including You In Your Small Corner, X At The Court and Skyvers.

You In Your Small Corner, a story about the relationship between a young middle-class West Indian and his white, working-class girlfriend was adapted by Reckord for television and aired on Granada Television in 1962 in the Play of The Week strand. Reckord wrote two more television dramas In The Beautiful Caribbean (tx.3/2/1972) and Club Havana (tx.25/10/1975), both for the BBC.
