Colin Salmon was born in Luton on 6 December 1962. Best known in Britain on television for his award-winning role of DS Bob Oswalde in police drama Prime Suspect II (ITV, 1992), he has played M's Chief of Staff in three James Bond films, Tomorrow Never Dies (d. Roger Spottiswoode, 1997), The World is Not Enough (d. Michael Apted, 1999) and Die Another Day (d. Lee Tamahori, 2002).

His filmography includes Captives (d. Angela Pope, 1994), All Men Are Mortal (Netherlands/France/UK, d. Ate de Jong, 1995), the title role in Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask (d. Isaac Julien, 1997), The Wisdom of Crocodiles (d. Po-Chih Leong, 1998).

On stage he has been seen in After Darwin, Buddy, All Or Nothing At All, Head in the Machine and Ariadne, and he directed Blues Man for the Young Writers Festival at London's Royal Court Theatre.

His television credits include Shine on Harvey Moon (ITV, 1982-85), Soldier, Soldier (ITV, 1991-97) and Silent Witness (BBC, 1996-). He can also be frequently heard on various voice-over work.
