Roger Moore studied at RADA, having decided he preferred acting to painting. His first film appearance was a bit part in Perfect Strangers (UK, d. Alexander Korda, 1945) and he continued to appear in bit parts until 1953 when he went to America, signed up with MGM and had secondary roles in such films as Interrupted Melody (US, d. Curtis Bernhardt, 1955). Back in England, in 1962 he shot to stardom as Simon Templar in TV's The Saint (ITV, 1962-1969) and in 1973 took over from Sean Connery in the role of James Bond in Live and Let Die (d. Guy Hamilton, 1973), offering here and in the films that followed a handsome but blander version of 007's famous charms. His other films have been generally routine. He married and divorced singer Dorothy Squires (b.Carmathen, Wales, 1915 - d.Rhondda, Wales, 1998), who appeared in the 1956 film, Stars in Your Eyes (d. Maurice Elvey).
