Delicately lovely brunette Lesley-Anne Down (born in London on 17 March 1954), in films from her teens, really came to attention for her role as Lady Georgina Worsley in the TV series Upstairs Downstairs (ITV, 1971-74). She had the female lead in The First Great Train Robbery (d. Michael Crichton, 1978), but generally her British films were disappointing - like her subsequent US ones. Many telemovies and
miniseries, including North and South (US, d. Richard T Heffron, 1985, US) and its sequels. Her first husband (of three) was director William Friedkin (1982-85). Brian McFarlane, Encyclopedia of British Film
