Designer Anton Furst won an Oscar for designing Batman (d. Tim Burton, 1989), a US film largely made at Pinewood.

Trained as an architect and with experience in lighting rock concerts, he was an uncredited assistant on Alien (UK/US, d. Ridley Scott, 1979) and Moonraker (UK/France, 1979), and did superb work in creating a mythical landscape in The Company of Wolves (d. Neil Jordan, 1984) and recreating Vietnam in the Home Counties for Full Metal Jacket (d. Stanley Kubrick, 1987).

He moved to Hollywood in the late 1980s and committed suicide in 1991.
