Prime Minister John Major is interviewed in the back of a car about his upbringing in Brixton. He discusses the use of soap boxes for making political speeches in Brixton Market and Brixton Road, and reminisces about playing cricket in the street outside his house in Coldharbour Lane.
The car drives past a downstairs flat in Burton Road, where Major also lived. He talks about being unemployed, but says that the cure for unemployment is the right framework for economic growth, which takes time, involves unpopular decisions, needs a competitive tax structure, and is generally difficult.
Major reveals more about his life: marrying Norma at St Matthew's Church in Lambeth, becoming a Lambeth councillor, his parents' excellent experience of the NHS, and how it brings peace of mind that will be encouraged by Major's Patients' Charter. He recalls the excitement and atmosphere of the House of Commons when he entered it for the first time, and that's why he enjoys politics. He is shown consorting with world leaders and entering No. 10 Downing Street.
