Secret of the Seven Sorcerers(originally transmitted on BBC1 7th March 1993)

Margaret's friend, Mrs.Warboys, tells her that she has hired a private detective because she believes her husband is having an affair. Meanwhile the Meldrews have invited their neighbours Patrick and Pippa round for dinner in an attempt to foster better relations. However at the moment Victor and Margaret are the victims of prank 999 calls, resulting in constant visits from the fire brigade.

After Victor goes to his new job as a lollipop man - replacing someone run down by a juggernaut - his conjuring group arrive at the Meldrew's home. Unfortunately, an old man is taken ill and help is sought. When Patrick and Pippa arrive for dinner, they hear moans from a trunk. It transpires that the wrong old man was taken to hospital and the real victim is still locked and chained from his escapology attempts.

When all is resolved Victor and Margaret meet Mrs.Warboys at a restaurant. She tells them that the affair had never occurred but that her husband has now run off with the female private detective. Just as Victor tells her that it's when you think things must get better that they usually get worse, the sprinkler system drenches them and firemen burst through the door.
