Friday Night with the Crazy Gang (1956)

Synopsis

Warning: screenonline full synopses contain 'spoilers' which give away key plot points. Don't read on if you don't want to know the ending!

Edition originally broadcast on ITV (London) on 5 October 1956

A continuity announcer introduces the show, and has water poured on her from above. The Crazy Gang appear on a stage before a live audience, each entering through a different door, and sing 'Be Your Age'. This segues into a succession of quick jokes and bizarre turns, including a candle balanced on the backside of an acrobat being blown out by a trombone. The Gang introduce a performance by the Tiller Girls and Italian singer Rosalina Neri. The Gang perform a balloon dance, combining genuine acrobatic dexterity with deliberately inept slapstick.

The Gang perform a musical number, 'The Teddy Boys' Ball', followed by a second performance from Neri.

The Gang perform a long sketch, parodying the Scarlet Pimpernel, with Flanagan (in drag), Knox (in the lead) and Nervo performing on stage, while Naughton and Gold interject from the audience.
