"A great deal these days is written about the slums. This film is going to introduce you to some of the people concerned..."
So begins Housing Problems, a classic documentary about the problems of Britain's slums and one of the first films to use interviews with ordinary people talking straight to the camera about their lives.
The film was sponsored by the British Commercial Gas Association with the aim of promoting the work of 'enlightened' local authorities and planners to improve housing conditions.
In these extracts, a number of different men and women from Stepney describe their squalid living conditions and plans for rehousing are explained.
