After WWII, plans were drawn up to build a number of new towns around the Glasgow area with the aim of transferring Glaswegians from the slums into functional, purpose built-towns that could accommodate a modern workforce. Three new towns were built, East Kilbride, Cumbernauld and Glenrothes, followed later by Livingstone.
Cumbernauld, Town for Tomorrow is one of several promotional films made by the Scottish new town corporations to promote and publicise the standard of living in the new towns, and to attract industrial development.
